SLC Results 2067 B.S. Out
Bhaktapur, June 20: Office of the Controller of Examinations, Bhaktapur has published the results of SLC examinations held last year. At a press conference organized by the Office on Monday evening, Controller Surya Prasad Gautam informed media that a total of 230,499 students passed the SLC exam where 55.50 percent are from regular and 17.30 percent from examted category.

Likewise, in the exempted category, 9,733 of the 56,263 students who had appeared in the examinations have passed. Of them, 180 passed in first division, 7,366 in second and 2,187 in third division. A total of 3,647 were absent in the examinations while the result of 431 students has been withheld and that of 142 students cancelled.
The results of SLC examinations 2067 was announced at 5:00 pm today, as the decision of the SLC Examinations Board held this afternoon under the chairmanship of Education Secretary, Shanker Pandey. For students, who have failed only in two subjects, a chance exam would be held between August 8 to 15.
The results would be published by The Himalayan Times daily while it can also be received after dialing 1600 in Nepal Telecom and 1215 of UTL telephone company. Likewise, the result can also be known through SMS in mobile telephone by sending SMS with the required information to 1400 in Nepal Telecom, 2722 in APCA Nepal, 4949 of EAS service, 5001 in Janaki Technology, 5225 in Teletalk, 5566 in Focusone, 7373 in Miracle Infocom, 8080 in Kantipur Publications and through the websites www.slcresult.soce.gov.np, www.slc.ntc.net.np, www.moe.gov.np and www.doe.gov.np.
The mark-sheet of SLC examinations 2067 B.S. will be available from the concerned school within the next ten days, according to the Office of the Controller of Examinations.
NTY-2011 activities highlighted
Kathmandu, June 20: Chief Executive Oficer of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Prachanda Man Shrestha has said the activities of the Nepal Tourism Year-2011 so far are fruitful but not fully satisfactory.
Speaking at a press conference organized to give out information about the activities carried out under the NTY-2011 in the last six months, he said this campaign was not become satisfactory as expected due to the problems in the Nepal Airlines Corporation and the budget as well as the uncertainty and instability that still remains in the country.
He said since the announcement of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Implementation Committee and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal carried out many promotional and infrastructure development activities in their respective field.
Apart from its regular programs, Nepal Tourism Board and NTY Secretariat organized intensive promotional activities in Europe, India, China and other source markets for creating awareness about Nepal's tourism amidst Nepal Tourism Year. Many programs have been organized internationally in collaboration with NRN and Nepalese Embassies. In the same way, to promote NTY domestically, Nepal Tourism Board and NTY Secretariat supported more than 63 fairs and festivals being organized across the country. The recently concluded 4th National Tourism Fair also brought people together from more than 60 districts to showcase the attention of travelers globally.
A number of familiarization tours for media that has been organized so far have given a good media mileage. Advertisement has been given to different FMs and TVs to promote NTY domestically. During this period, international airlines have also added their frequency to Nepal and a few new airlines have started flying to Nepal. Many international events have been taken place in Nepal during this period like Bryan Adam's Live Concert.
As a gateway to enter, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has given high priority to improve the infrastructure of Tribhuvan International Airport. The operation of new sterilized zone having the capacity of more than 350 passengers to accommodate is one of the examples of its commitment to facilitate tourists. It has introduced a few innovative things for the betterment of the airport. Feasible study has been completed for the operation of flight between Pokhara and Lucknow. 32 Counter of Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) will be introduced at TIA from July 31, 2011.
According to a press release issued on the occasion, the mountaineering royalty has been waived 50% to Dhaulagiri peak from May 7, 2010 to 31st December 2011 and for this period free visa is provided for Mt. Everest and Mt. Dhaulagiri summiteers (Cabinet Decision- May 7, 2010).
Similarly, the mountaineering royalty has totally waived to Baden Powell Scout Peak (5891m.) from 31th March, 2010 to 30th March 2012 (Cabined Decision-May 7, 2010). The mountaineering royalty has totally waived to those mountains situated on mid western and Far western development regions of Nepal for coming five years.
It is stated that the Ministry of Information and Communications has issued Postal Stamp commemorating Nepal Tourism Year 2011. Nepal Rastra Bank has also issued Coins commemorating NTY 2011. Through the Ministry of Local Development, Tourism Unit has been established in District and Village Development Committee and Municipalities. Now many of tourism works have been carried out through this unit.
Since the introduction of Regulation of Homestay, 164 units in 12 districts have been registered with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. 5 training programs are being organized for the Homestay and other five are in the pipeline for next fiscal year.
To publicise this campaign through regional and international media, the Government has provisioned Rs. 130 millions to promote Nepal in potential tourist generating market for creating Nepal focused awareness with sales drive so that the mission objective is realized. However, to spend this money, it is imperative to follow the directives of the government.
To make this happen on time, NTY Committee is now undergoing rigorous exercise to expedite this work of providing promotional advertisement in the international media following the guidelines of the government.
The government of Nepal decided on 25 October 2008 to celebrate 2011 as Nepal Tourism Year. To chalk out the detail course of action of Nepal Tourism Year, the first meeting of Main Committee took place on January 18, 2009 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation as an Ex-officio Chairperson. It decided to begin promotional launching of Nepal Tourism Year on January 25, 2009. The official pre soft launch of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 was held on February 26, 2010 with the leaders of all political parties (altogether 19) being represented at Constituent Assembly signed commitment paper not to organize bandh during Nepal Tourism Year.
The soft launch was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. Another milestone of Nepal Tourism Year was its inauguration held on January 14, 2011 attended by Tourism Ministers and other high dignitaries from Asian region along with Secretary General of UNWTO and inaugurated by the President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav along with Asian Tourism Minister's conclave on the sidelines under the theme of "Together for Tourism."
PM releases special issue on Prashrit
Kathmandu, June 20: Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal released a Special Issue of Juhi, a quarterly literary magazine, on Modanath Prashrit on the occasion of the 70th birthday of litterateur Modnath Prashrit at a programme on Monday.
The special issue of the literary magazine contains the works and life stories of litterateur Prashrit. On the occasion, Prime Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the magazine from the government’s side and from the CPN-UML for publishing the works of political colleague and literary figure Prashrit.
He stressed that peace, constitution and national consensus were essential to institutionalize the multifaceted values of the historic people's revolution of 2062/063 B.S. and for the prosperity and transformation of the country. Prime Minister Khanal assured that government would extend help to litterateur Prashrit to complete the epic 'Sitayan' that the writer is currently working on.
At the programme, litterateur Prashrit said he was writing in favour of the oppressed, suppressed and backward communities and he would be a full-time writer now onwards.
Even a book 'Modnath Prashrit: A Study' by Dr Kapil Dev Lamichhane was released on the occasion. Chief Editor of the Juhi magazine, Chudamani Regmi said the special issue on Prashrit was published seeing him with the eyes of wisdom. Various literary persons including Chancellor of Nepal Academy Bairagi Kainla, and culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi were present at the programme.
SC GIVES VERDICT IN FAVOUR OF BATALA
Kathmandu, June 20: The Supreme Court (SC) has concluded that it was not as per the law to arrest Govinda Bahadur Batala, brigade commander of the People's Liberation Army third division headquarters, again in the same case.
Batala convicted in the killing of businessman Ramhari Shrestha of Koteshwor has already served a three-year jail term in the case. But, he was rearrested by the police on the charge of abduction on May 31 the same day he was released after completing the period of jail imprisonment.
Following Batala’s re-arrest in the same case, his spouse had filed a writ petition at the Court, demanding a habeas corpus on July 15. Acting upon the writ petition, the Court had asked for documents related to Batala's case from the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday. A joint bench of court judges Sushila Karki and Tahirali Ansari today issued a verdict stating it was not legal to arrest a person who had already completed the sentenced period of imprisonment again in the same case.
three leaders hold discussion on integration issue
Kathmandu, June 20: Senior leaders of the three major political parties discussed on Monday ways to reach to a consensus on the integration of the Maoist combatants. The discussion between UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', leader of NC Parliamentary Party, Ram Chandra Poudel and senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal was held at the Peace Fund Secretariat, Babarmahal.
Matters related to the modality of integration of the Maoist combatants, the number of combatants for integration and rehabilitation and the rehabilitation package were discussed. Talking to media persons following the meeting, NC leader Poudel said the major issues of the enforcement of the peace process were discussed.
Senior CPN-UML leader Nepal expressed the confidence that the discussion today would be helpful in creating an atmosphere conducive to the enforcement of the peace process.
GOVT SERIOUS ON JOURNALISTS' RIGHTS, SAYS MINISTER SAPKOTA
Kathmandu, June 20: Minister for Information and Communications, Agni Prasad Sapkota has said the government is extremely serious towards the issues related to journalists' rights and press freedom.
Inaugurating the Nagarik Media Club in the Capital on Monday, Sapkota said the government is worried about the present situation of journalists since they could not work freely until their minimum requirements are fulfilled. He said, "The government is planning to guarantee life insurance to all journalists developing their career in journalism for the past one decade". He promised to manage skill enhancement training for journalists and to take initiative for effective implementation of the Journalists Welfare Trust.
The information and communications minister further pledged to bring the people involved in violating press freedom and assaulting journalists to justice. Also speaking at the programme, Nepali Congress leader and lawmaker Shovakar Parajuli accused the CPN (UML) of openly interfering press. He condemned the government for its failure to arrest the assailants of Biratnagar-based journalist Khilanath Dhakal.
CPN (UML) leader Yogesh Bhattarai urged not to link the name of party with the attack on journalist Dhakal. He underscored the need of punishing the attackers of Dhakal and also urged journalists to be dedicated to the profession of journalism.
Senior journalist and editor of the Nepal Samacharparta Daily, Badri Tiwari stressed that all journalists should themselves be aware for guarantee of their rights.
Former general secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Poshan KC expressed condemned over the continuous attack on media persons and media houses. He accused the government of being failed to control such open interference in press. Club Chairman Suman Nepal said the objective of the club is to promote fair and professional journalism.
Bhutanese refugees marking Refugee Day
Kathmandu, June 20: More than 50 million refugees of the world are celebrating World Refugee Day today. In Nepal, Bhutanese refugees in Jhapa and Morang are observing the day today by organising several programmes.
Talking to dailykathmanud.com on the occasion of World Refugee Day, Bhutanese Refugee leader Teknath Rijal said all refugees should be repatriated without any discrimination and should be freed from fear and danger to life and liberty. This day shouldn’t be merely limited in informal programmes, but the day has to be utilized as an opportunity to work for the rights of refugees, he said.
The UN has been celebrating Refugee Day every year on June 20 since 2001. More than 50 million people in the world have been living the life of refugees and around 400 million population has been living an uncertain life,
according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Earlier before the start of third country resettlement programme, nearly 100,000 Bhutanese refugees were living in eastern Nepal.
