nc continues parliament disruption
Kathmandu, Aug. 7: The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress disrupted the parliament meeting today, calling for enforcement of its demand that Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal resign as per the May 28 five-point agreement.
The meeting, that began at 6:00 pm 3 hours later than originally scheduled, could not enter the regular agenda due to disruption by the Nepali Congress. This is the seventh continuous occasion that the NC forced the Speaker to postpone the parliament meeting with the same demand.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, Laxman Ghimire demanded that the Prime Minister resign before August 29 for a political way out. Although the Prime Minister has announced that he would resign on August 13 if no significant work is carried out in the peace process, the parliament was unaware about this, he said, accusing the Prime Minister of making the country a hostage of indecision.
Similarly, Meena Pandey of the Nepali Congress demanded the postponement of the parliament meeting and proceedings. Reasoning that the atmosphere was not conducive to run the parliament meeting ahead, Speaker Subas Nembang put off the meeting until 3:00 pm tomorrow.
NC concerned over UML chief's missive
Kathmandu, Aug. 7: Leader of the parliamentary party of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel has expressed concern over the unclear missive that CPN-UML Chief and Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal wrote recently to the Nepali Congress.
"Prime Minister's letter to the Nepali Congress lacks clarity on peace process, constitution writing and the five-point agreement," leader Poudel said. Emerging out from the parliament meeting hall, leader Poudel told media persons that his party would continue disrupting the parliament until the Prime Minister resigned from his post.
He demanded that the Prime Minister should come up with a clear view on the implementation of the five-point pact including his resignation and issues related to the peace process and constitution writing.
The Nepali Congress has been continuing the House disruption demanding the resignation of the prime minister in order to implement the five-point pact. Today was the seventh day that the NC disrupted the parliament for the same cause.
