UNKNOWN DISEASE KILLS 1,000 GOATS IN A WEEK
Saptari, June 12: Over 1,000 goats died in a week due to an unidentified disease in Saptari district. More than two dozen VDCs including Madhepura, Bahbangamakati, Mahadeva Nargho, Terahauta, Sitapur and Belhichapena have been affected due to the disease. The disease has not been brought under control yet, complained the locals.

According to farmers, the goats suffer from high fever, wounds around mouth, pass saliva frequently, and ultimately die suffering from diarrhoea.
Farmer Ramnath Yadav said each day at least a dozen of goat are dying in the villages. Another farmer Tanka Bahadur Magar of Terahauta VDC said he lost more than two dozen goats though his goats were treated as per the advices from a veterinary doctor.
Farmers have criticized the officials of the District Live Stock Office, Saptari, for not taking any step to control the disease.
Dr Kashinath Yadav, Chief of the District Live Stock Office, Saptari, said the disease was spread due to summer and rainy season and medicines required to control the disease has been send to the affected areas.
Legislature-Parliament Special Hour
Speaking at the special hour of the Legislature-Parliament meeting on Monday, legislator Pun urged the main opposition Nepali Congress to be serious on the peace process.
Laxman Ghimire of the Nepali Congress also expressed concern over inability of the authorities concerned to arrest the attackers of journalist Dhakal. He strongly demanded the prime minister to resign from his post.
Similarly, CPN-UML's Bhim Rawal said the decision of the army integration special committee should be implemented, and the Legislature-Parliament should monitor the implementation of the five-point agreement. He added that personal matters as of beating journalist should not be interpreted by linking it to the party.
MP Hem Raj Tater urged the government to arrange for an accountant in district office, Saptari.
Likewise, MP Lokendra Bahadur Chand said it was surprising that every agreement among the three political parties calls for the prime minister's resignation, though the parties reiterate peace and constitution.
Other legislators to draw parliament's attention on the contemporary issues were Ishwor Dayal Mishra, Laxman Lal Karna, Sunil Babu Pant, Lila Nyainchyain and Chandra Bahadur Gurung.
budget to prioritize women: minister adhikari
Development is impossible until the women are given equal opportunities in the economic sector, so the Finance Ministry is planning to bring a special programme for the advancement of women, Minister Adhikari said while speaking at the Central Regional Microfinance Members' Conference organized by the Rural Microfinance Development Centre in the capital on Monday.
He lauded the role of the microfinance programmes and cooperatives for improving the economic status of women.
On the occasion, Minister of State for Forest and Soil Conservation, Bhagawati Chaudhari assured that the government would help the microfinance programmes, as these are the main tools to alleviate poverty.
Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Gopal Prasad Kafle said the entire economy has been facing problems due to economic liquidity.However, he said the central bank was ready to help the development of the microfinance sector.
Nine-pt criteria for domestic helpers to go abroad
Kathmandu, June 13: Ministry of Labor and Transport Management has fixed nine-point criteria for Nepali workers flying abroad to work as domestic helpers.
Speaking at a weekly press meet organized at the Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday, spokesperson of Ministry of Labor and Transport Management, Purna Chandra Bhattarai said the new condition has been set in the Working Procedures to manage the Nepali workers going to work as domestic helpers, 2067.
Such provisions has been set for the workers going to work in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The conditions include minimum salary, provision of insurance, economic standards and social status of the landlord/landlady who keep the domestic helpers, provision of safe housing for workers including others.
On the occasion, Bhattarai said the first amendment to the Foreign Employment Regulations had led to an increase in the compensation amount received by the deceased workers’ family taking it to Rs. 150,000 and also deployment of a labor attaché if over 1,000 women workers are working in any particular country.
Similarly, as per the first amendment to the Regulations, the manpower recruiting company should collect more deposits if the companies were supposed to open branches and hire agents.
On the occasion, spokesperson of Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Ganesh Prasad Dhakal said the draft of the Bill on petroleum products is on the cards. Dhakal informed the journalists that action against Sugam Gas and Tara Gas Companies has been initiated.
environment ministry gets solar power
As per the target of the Government to install solar energy of 1,000 kilowatt at all government offices inside the Singha Durbar area, the environment ministry was electrified today.
Formally opening the installation of solar power, Environment Minister Sunil Kumar Manandhar said the Office of the President will also be equipped with the solar system soon. The Alternative Energy Promotion Center assisted the installation of solar plants worth Rs. 700,000.
Fourth national tourism fair wraps up
The fair organized with the objective of identifying new tourism destinations in the country and also promoting domestic tourism concluded on Sunday.
The three-day fair featured a glimpse of different attractive tourism destinations, the customs and traditions of different communities and places as well as tourism products. There were altogether 106 stalls showcasing the tourism products.
Of the 106 stalls kept in the fair, NTB adjudged the stall representing the Gorkha district as the best stall. The stall from Gorkha district bagged the ‘Best Stall’ award as it depicted the religious, cultural and historic tourism destinations in the most informative manner and also included a package tour.
A replica of a typical Nepali house for providing home-stay service to tourists was the attraction of the fair. Similarly, documentary film shows on package tours and various adventure tourisms, and interaction programme on promotion of tourism were also organized in course of the fair.
Monitoring starts in PLA camp
Chitwan (Ratnanagar), June 13: A team of the Army Integration Special Committee Secretariat has started monitoring of the Maoist PLA Third Division camp in Chitwan.
The monitoring team comprising 19 people completed monitoring at the Basu Memorial Brigade and the Pratap Memorial Brigade under the PLA Third Division in the first phase, said Janak Bista, spokesman of the PLA Third Division Camp, Shaktikhor.
Bista said the team will gradually carry out monitoring works at the remaining camps also. Although the monitors arrived at the camp on Saturday, the monitoring works started only on Sunday.
The monitoring of the PLA camps could not take place since the departure of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) five months ago.
Complaints lodged seeking information
The Forum had requested for detail information about the firms that evaded the Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Right to Information Act on May 18. But, no information was provided until fifteen days of the registration of the application at the Ministry.
The organization said the information would make public the details about those involved in the serious economic crime -the scam as much as of over Rs 3 billion. It would also disclose the delay and indifference towards the actions to be carried out against the business houses involved in evading tax.
Freedom Forum Chairman Taranath Dahal said the information should be given as per the Right to Information Act and since there is possibility of such documents being destroyed they should be made public, as these are the properties of the nation.
FNCCI Chairman concerned over dwindling economy
Chitwan (Ratnanagar), June 13: A special general meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) kicked off at Narayangadh on Monday. The meeting is to run for two days.
FNCCI Chair in Chitwan Uttam Lal Chuke said the general meeting would formulate the future strategies. Similarly, the meeting held discussion with the experts on agriculture, tourism, and energy. However, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is scheduled to inaugurate the meeting formally on Tuesday. Speaking on the eve of the meeting, FNCCI Chairman Suraj Vaidya urged the political parties not to ruin the economy.
Int’l Mountaineering Trekking to continue this year
The first base camp of the Mt. Everest in both Nepal and China side will be included in the trekking. The trekking will begin from Potala Durbar, Lhasa , Tibet on September 20 and will conclude after reaching Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Budhha, on October 12, said organizer.
Both the sites are enlisted under the world heritage list of the UNESCO and the holy places for Buddhist from across the world. Nepali ambassador to China Tanka Prasad Karki handed over the flag prepared for the trekking to Jin Qiao, General Secretary of Voxsports Association.
After the programme, ambassador Karki said this event will be fruitful to promote Nepal ’s tourism in China . Jin said process for name registration and publicity has been started as soon as after the declaration of the formal programme.
